project overview
defining the problem
This was an assignment for school. Every year towards the end of term, we are usually given a personal branding project. That way, we have a very consistent way to track our growth and development through the program, as well as try on different hats to see how they fit. This was the last one I did in my degree, and definitely the one that I feel represents myself as a designer and my professional interests in the most holistic, and complete way.
project considerations
For this project, we were encouraged to tackle our branding with the intent to design for a specific client-type or industry, which was an easier way to approach such a daunting project by narrowing the scope. For my approach, I wanted to attract clients that are interested in UX/UI, illustration, and creating work that is meaningful, fun and creative.
To do this, I wanted my design system to be fundamentally friendly and inviting. I used my own handwriting to create a word mark and icon system, which were first done in Procreate and cleaned up further in Illustrator. Using my handwriting felt like the easiest way to make something that was wholly unique and personal, and an approach I have experimented with and further refined multiple times. I think the solution I arrived at this time has been my personal favourite.
