project overview
This was a project from my Advanced Graphic Design class, where my wonderful professor, Sue Colberg, was a member of the International Council of Design. The goal for this project was to take their “Professional Code of Conduct” booklet and redesign it anyway we chose; I decided to redesign the entire booklet.
process
defining the problem
The main problem I was aiming to address was how the original text document is very text heavy, with not much hierarchy in the typesetting. It made pages look very daunting, and quite heavy. As well, I thought that the organisation of the document could be improved upon, which would help distribute the information across multiple pages. I wanted to make each page distinct from one another, adding areas of focus and visual delight as the reader flips through the document.

project considerations
I redesigned this booklet with young or inexperienced designers in mind, particularly those who are in school and are very new to the professional practice of design. Many of my design choices were made with this typically young, modern, and colourful demographic in my mind.
final redesign
To make the booklet more inviting and approachable, I used undercap in the headings, and introduced a primary colour palette to truly invite designers into reading and engaging with the content. Furthermore, I broke up the text on the pages by playing with the negative space to create a very stylised and modern look to the overall design. The last thing I did to increase the friendliness of the booklet was adding text that highlighted why a design student might find a given section of this booklet interesting.
